Dr. Malik stressed that a judge should not act as a politician

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In a press conference held on Monday, Minister of State for Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik expressed his views on the functioning of the judicial system in Pakistan.

He stated that if a full court had been formed during the time of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, neither the government nor the judiciary would have been ashamed.

Dr. Malik stressed that a judge should not act as a politician, but rather as an impartial figure.

He added that Justice Athar Minallah had rightly pointed out that judges should not be politically biased.

The minister also questioned the reduction of the bench from nine to five to three and whether anyone would question it.

Dr. Malik emphasized that justice should not be influenced by personal biases and should be equal for all.

He questioned the prevalence of darkness in the country if justice is truly equal for all.

He also pointed out the disparities in the treatment of political leaders in the court system, stating that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not receive any relief in hundreds of appearances, while Imran Khan was given bail on several occasions.

The minister further criticized the discrimination shown towards the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, stating that its leaders were never given relief from court appearances, unlike Imran Khan.

He cited the example of businessman Malik Riaz, from whom Imran Khan allegedly acquired 450 kanal land and in return was given benefits of billions of rupees.

Dr. Malik also referred to the case of Arif Naqvi, who was released from paying billions by only receiving two to three million pounds.

The minister concluded his speech by stating that justice should be served without any personal biases or discrimination, and urged for an unbiased and fair judicial system in the country.
